RESEARCH TRENDS OF CULTURAL HERITAGE TOURISM ABROAD IN THE LAST DECADE: A REVIEW OF ANNALS OF TOURISM RESEARCH AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT |

Abstract Cultural heritage tourism is a hotspot of tourism research abroad. In order to grasp the research trends abroad in the last decade, the author sort out a total of 49 articles about cultural heritage tourism by retrieving the two internationally authoritative journal of tourism research issue of Annals of Tourism Research and Tourism Management during the years 2001-2010. Then, these articles have been classified and reviewed from four research perspectives, namely, cultural heritage tourists, cultural heritage tourism destination, cultural heritage tourism development and management, cultural heritage tourism interpretation and the authenticity. It has been concluded that these researches mainly focus on the authenticity and the tourists research, and emphasized the field of community participation and stakeholder recently; the authors are mostly from Europe, North America and Australia, the few ones from Chinese mainland, this phenomenon is of course related to these two periodicals editing and publishing in Anglo-American but it is also an indisputable fact that existing the gap of the academic standards between the Chinese researchers and their foreign counterparts;the part of Chinese mainland scholars research results were published show that China's tourism academic research has been recognized by international peers, in such literature has been published mostly co-signed by the domestic and foreign scholars to explain that Chinese tourism circles are strengthening academic exchanges with foreign.
